The April Vertical Challenge has concluded with a winner: Giacomo Casabianca! Additionally, three other participants managed to achieve an elevation gain of over 3,400 meters.
In the meantime, new trail sections have opened, and—most importantly—travel restrictions between municipalities have been lifted. We are therefore ready to launch the challenge again.
The spirit remains the same: it is a competition, certainly, but above all, it is about showcasing the vast network of trails built by our ancestors. How much elevation gain can you achieve using only the trails within the municipality of Riomaggiore, without traversing the same trail more than once?
Find out by participating in our VERTICAL CHALLENGE! The rules are very simple and have been slightly modified:
– Sign up for Strava or another app capable of recording your hike/run track, including total elevation gain (using a GPS-enabled watch linked to the app is recommended for more consistent data).
– Record the route of a single run or hike on trails located exclusively within the municipality of Riomaggiore (REL-marked trails and trails shown on OpenStreetMap). “Secret” shortcuts or wild boar tracks do not count.
– You cannot pass the same point more than once; however, crossing trails or overlapping on short shared sections is permitted, provided those sections carry dual trail numbering.
– Complete your run/hike by May 31, 2021. – Winners of previous editions are not eligible for prizes (prizes cannot be combined). Send your route details (only one route per person), including the elevation gain, to info@cinqueterretrekking.com with the subject line #SFIDAVERTICALE.
Winners will be notified via email.
The Prize** Participants who cover an elevation gain of more than 2,000 meters in a single run or hike receive a Cinque Terre Trekking T-shirt featuring the red-and-white logo (color subject to availability).
A sweatshirt is up for grabs for the overall monthly winner—the person who achieves the greatest total elevation gain. #riomaggiore #cinqueterre #verticalchallenge #vertical #elevationgain
** This is not a contest or a prize promotion, as the value of the prize does not exceed €25.82 (Legislative Decree 430/01). Tag #VerticalChallenge
