One common misconception about the Cinque Terre is that there is a single trail connecting the five villages—Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. In reality, multiple routes connect the villages on a vast network of trails that weave through vineyards, olive groves, Mediterranean scrub, and forests. Check out our trail guides at the link in our bio.

Life in the Cinque Terre comes with a special responsibility: caring for the terraced landscape that we inherited from those who built it. For us that means cultivating our family’s land and recovering abandoned trails. When we’re not in the shop, that’s where we usually are.

Fourteen years ago today we opened our little outdoor gear shop in Manarola. We have since moved just up the street to our current, slightly larger, location, but our passion for great gear and our local trails hasn’t changed. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our adventure and for making Cinque Terre Trekking a part of yours.

Each Cinque Terre village has at least one vertical trail connecting it to the mid-level trails and the ridge trail AV5T, creating numerous options for hiking from one village to another.
This route from Riomaggiore to Manarola follows vertical trails 501 and 502, linked by Trail 530, part of the historic Strada dei Santuari. The hike covers 4.75 km and includes approximately 400 meters of elevation gain.

All of the trails leading out of Riomaggiore, with the exception of the Via dell’Amore, intersect with other trails, which in turn connect to yet others, for countless hiking options to reach Manarola.

This point-to-point route starts on Trail N. 531 in Riomaggiore, connects to Trail N. 532 on Costa Corniolo, turns onto Trail N. 532C to Groppo, then descends on Trails 506V and 506 to Manarola — covering 3.5km with 233 meters of elevation gain.

On a map it looks parallel to the Via dell’Amore, but in reality Trail N. 531 is a steep climb out of Riomaggiore, gaining 200 meters of elevation in just 600 meters, and an equally steep descent to Manarola. Known locally as the “Beccara”, this trail is almost entirely on stairs.

If we had to rank our favorite trails among the 15

If we had to rank our favorite trails among the 15 kilometers we’ve restored, the “Pagana Antica” would definitely be in the top three.

More information is coming soon on how you can include this and other “secret” trails in your Cinque Terre hiking itinerary.
