CTT takes you on the trails.
Trail No. 506 is one of the two vertical trails that connect Manarola to the AV5T ridge trail (the other is Trail No. 502, introduced last week). When you exit the tunnel at Manarola station, on the main street Via Discovolo, the trail immediately starts climbing steeply. For the first 200 meters, you follow the main road, then, upon reaching our shop Cinque Terre Trekking (on the left at No. 108), turn right onto the staircase Via Ettore Cozzani. After 100 meters the stairs end at Piazza Papa Innocenzo IV, and the trail continues straight through the square. The church of San Lorenzo, dating back to 1375, will be on your left. The facade was built with local sandstone, and the rose window was carved from Carrara white marble. The bell tower will be on your right, offering a splendid view of the town and the sea. The trail follows the road for another 100 meters, going up the parking lot. As the road curves to the left, the trail separates from it and you take a right onto a paved path that follows the Rio Groppo for about 200 meters. The trail then climbs a long ramp of wide concrete steps, and then follows an old mule track through vegetable gardens, lemon groves, and vineyards. At the roundabout on the coastal SP 370, 1 km from the start, the trail crosses the road, turns left, and goes under the road for about 100 meters before rejoining the road for 30 meters. The road curves to the right, and the trail splits to the left, up the steps in the “Pie ‘di Fiesse” area.
