CTT takes you to the trails.
The Val di Chiara trail is a steep, vertical path connecting the Cinque Terre hamlet of Groppo to Trail No. 530 (the *Strada dei Santuari* or “Sanctuaries Road”). This trail had been abandoned for about 40 years before being reopened this winter by our team of volunteers. In the past, locals from Groppo used it to transport wine to Riccò del Golfo in the Val di Vara. The trail is unmarked; at the time of writing, it is open but still undergoing further development. It starts at the top of the main parking lot in Groppo, on Via Piave. From there, turn right and cross the “Groppo channel” at its confluence with the “Crovo stream.” Follow the “Crovo stream” for a few meters before climbing a short but steep flight of stairs that leads to the SP51 road. Cantina Cinque Terre—an agricultural cooperative and the largest local wine producer—is just down the road to the left.
