? Trail of the Week: Trail #528
CTT takes you on the trails.
Trail N. 528 is a vertical trail at the extreme southeastern end of the Cinque Terre National Park. It originates outside of the park in Acquasanta, a small village on the Gulf of La Spezia, and enters the park at Campiglia. The oldest mention of the village of Campiglia dates back to the year 981. The descent to Persico starts on Via Tramonti where it intersects with Trail AV5T, near the trailhead of N. 535 to Fossola, just north of the church of Saint Catherine. The trail heads down at a gentle slope on a stone-paved mule track, through tall scrub and cultivated fields of grapevines and olives. The hillside is dotted with small farmhouses. After the cluster of farmhouses at “Il Chioso”, the trail steepens, and the muletrack is interspersed with stairs as it winds down through short scrub and prickly pears.
