Trail No. 528 is a steep trail located at the southeastern edge of Cinque Terre National Park. It begins just outside the park in Acquasanta—a small village on the Gulf of La Spezia—and enters the park at Campiglia. The earliest record of the village of Campiglia dates back to the year 981. The descent toward Persico begins at Via Tramonti, where the path intersects with the AV5T trail near the start of Trail No. 535 (leading to Fossola), just north of the Church of Santa Caterina. The trail descends gently along a paved mule track, winding through tall Mediterranean scrub and cultivated vineyards and olive groves. The hillside is dotted with small farmhouses. After passing the “Il Chioso” cluster of farmhouses, the trail steepens; the mule track gives way to a series of steps as it descends through low-growing shrubs and prickly pear cacti.
